Think about the Truth of the matter: men and women are made to seek one another so their union in Paradise may once again be known.  Yes, in marriage between a man and a woman we become whole, and God’s presence can be known, felt, ingested and we are fulfilled.

Now think about the gross escapades of Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Harvey Weinstein, Senator Franken, Charlie Rose, Anthony Weiner, and so many others.  The deeds of these people are godless, sick, evil, sacrilegious, unloving, dehumanizing, abnormal, unhealthy, without honor – disgusting and injurious to all.  But think too how they have been cultivated by the “Sexual Revolution” of the late 1960’s and excused by the Progressives, the Left, academics, the media, Hollywood, the entertainment industry, Feminists, Marxists, and those who wish to destroy America and “change” fundamentally who we have been and who God made us to be.

However don’t stop there for there is more fruit from this Poison Tree of this Marxist-inspired sexual liberation.  The fruit?  Abortion – the killing of unborn children, adultery, pornography, child sexual abuse, female predatory teachers, international sex trade, broken marriage, the fallacy of same-sex marriage, AIDS, “no fault” divorce, families without fathers, teenage pregnancy, dead-beat Dads, single mothers, the fiction of “villages raising children,” the growth of dependent women consigned to a life on the government dole, the political division between men and women fostered by the Democrat Left and “identity politics.”

We have in the last 50 years driven God and faith from culture and surely the public square and deconstructed a healthy society by destroying its vital human institutions and placing belief in God, and faith itself under a veil of suspicion. 

Do not make the mistake of seeing today’s tawdry episodes as unrelated to a wave of godless Leftist destruction.  No, what we see is the evidence of their years of inter-personal, spiritual and social destruction.

The bill for the Bacchanal has become do.  We know who bears responsibility.  We no longer need to listen to these errant voices anymore.  Their social engineering has failed miserably.

Man and woman: sacred beings.  Their union: a sacred vehicle.  Abandon this and one pays this price: self-destruction – individually, as to family, community, a political system and a Nation.

For sane people – hard facts demand fundamental change – a restoration of dignity, honor, truth and relationship with God.  Step up – reclaim what is your Divine identity and reclaim your life and land.  Happiness and prosperity await.

We have strayed dramatically from God.  Our nation has many among its elites who have gone far astray, who trust only in themselves – who have become corrupted.

In this circumstance we see the challenge posed for those who believe in God by those who are godless and hence pursue their selfish interest – power, and personal gain.  Yes, the questions joined now are good vs. evil, God vs. godlessness, belief vs. unbelief, Truth vs. falsehood.

In too many who occupy leadership positions God is rejected.  It is hard to imagine how it is that one can reject God, a God who is Love.

Think about God who is Love.

It is difficult for humans to imagine a God who loves freely, whose very nature is to love us without fail.  Why is this so?  Because we often love selectively – love only those who comply with our views, love only those who seem to love us as our condition of loving them.  But this is not how God loves.

Through we are sinners, God sends His Son to die for us, so we might believe in Him.

While we love on condition, God loves unconditionally.  But mind you this does not give us permission to lie, cheat, steal, be selfish, be a racist, advance sexual dysfunction and declare it normative, kill the unborn, commit adultery and violent crimes, deny reality, etc.

God loves us so that we might have peace, security, joy, contentment, a level of certainty, courage, meaning and purpose, and full growth.

Having been given love – we must love for to not love is to abandon who we are and who God is.

In the God who is love – all are worthy.  And yes, those whose behavior is rank, dishonest, selfish say: “I do not believe in anything but me.”  We have many of these people in our midst – one cannot yield to them, they must be dismissed, rejected for their ability to destroy is obvious and contrary to God and our welfare.

These naysayers now have greater influence over us and this culture than they warrant.  They are in positions of power, in academia and politics, in mass communication, law, education and entertainment – even in religious entities.

Time to restore God’s place in our life, our culture, our nation and our daily discourse.  Each of us bear this responsibility.

Sickness – Last night on Tucker Carlson’s show I saw yet another Law Professor (Ekow Yankah) spouting off as if a law degree itself made him smart, and wise.

Law degrees make one neither smart nor wise.  If you can read you can become a lawyer.  I know I am a lawyer.

Mr. Yankah was not just spouting off, he was advancing Black racism, yes – judging people by their skin color in just the same way feminists judge people by their gender.  Whither knowledge of moral philosophy, religion, theology, history, humility, good taste and grace?

We have a real problem of granting to lawyers, judges, academics, the media, politicians and (God help us) celebrities and entrepreneurial technologists knowledge and wisdom that they do not possess.  Granting those like Mr. Yankah any public forum is precisely what we ought not to do.  We have ignorance enough – no sense adding more and the division these thinly educated, misguided individuals now bring to us.

One distinguishing fact about the Left and others who seek omnipotence in government is this: they put unjustified confidence in the human being and man-made institutions and efforts.  Yes, they are disoriented.

They, like the letter writer O’Connor is responding to, somehow think that an ideology (however distorted or errantly applied) will give us heaven on earth.

Have these people been watching the movie I’ve seen for seven decades?  Have they not watched Seinfeld or met Woody Allen?  It seems clear that they have not grasped the essence of the Judeo-Christian narrative or the sweep of recorded human history.

Just today, I awoke to the “can’t make it up” mea-culpa of an rotund, aging leftwing Hollywood mogul (who loves his mother, perhaps a little too much) and has been (for years) asking would-be starlets to watch him take a shower.

He, of the “pro-feminist” persuasion, puts in plain view this: we inflate the expectation of the human person and in this intoxication quickly conjure up insane propositions as if all that occurs in moviemaking paves the way to earthly nirvana.

No, it does not.  We are not to be exalted, but to be humbled.  We do more damage than we think, create greater division, exhibit more insanity, destroy more good things than we ever imagine.  Hence my son’s favored expression: don’t just do something, stand there.

Yes, there you have it – a refutation of the Liberal in six easy words: don’t just do something, stand there.

If sanity is to root in present American culture – humans will cool their heels, and their expectations will subside in inverse proportion to their growth in humility, kindness, friendship, faith and self-effacing humor.

Today’s bumper-crop of disordered behavior and sickness ought to teach that much of what those with demonstrated maladies advocate is precisely adverse to our welfare and prosperity.  If you see them wearing a raincoat, leave your umbrella home.

Mr. Maarten, a self-identified psychic, has something here – particularly if you recognize that much of our discourse is influenced by, and in a sense governed by, the mass media culture and (as to private exchange) often conveyed by impersonal means of technological communication and through “social media” (or anti-personal media – if you prefer accuracy).

One can imagine what comparative mythologist Joseph Campbell might say about this.

Most likely he would identify the vast difference between discourse today and the deeply personal and supernatural discourse of primitive tribal peoples and any number of large cultures over the ages whose essence was of religious narrative and the communal and personal experience of religious existence – of the spiritual life of the human being.

Yes, they had full existence while we have advertising and quarter-baked (at best) political ideology and the heavy hand of government, academia, media and technology in the hands of vested elites.

Look around you at television and the characters who occupy news discourse. Have you ever heard a stranger group offering the most fanciful and bizarre observations and proclamations all without a shred of expertise – wandering into psychology, history, political philosophy and what-have-you armed with but makeup, ideology, bias and a common Leftist script?  Horsefeathers!  If only they were required to wear red bulbous noses and big rubber feet … providing fair warning is only fair.

And then there is the Hollywood sequestered loony-bin.  No shortage of derailed cabooses there.  And now print “media” – filling in the cracks of nonsense spun in political realms. And politics itself – endless strange utterances, inexcusable inertia, oddball explanations and vast projects which embed madness in public institutions and those who drink from their waters.

Beware.  The mass cultural voice you miss may be your salvation.  Earplugs do nicely today.

Yes, the Renaissance shifted the focus from God to man.

The Renaissance was fueled by the extraordinarily foolish (secular progressive) notion that the Middle Ages were intellectually and artistically sterile. In this idea the brilliance of metaphysical realism was bid farewell.

We have suffered illusion ever since – providing extraordinary hopes for the perfection of the human person despite obvious, abundant proof to the contrary. Indeed, it is this central idea that has plagued Western Civilization now for five plus centuries in various iterations to the present day.  Yes, this is the fanciful thinking of the Liberal, the Marxist, Socialists, the Progressive today.

Thus, the long hangover.

To be drunk on man as God – as perfection is to severe one’s connection between transcendent reality and material existence – discarding the former in favor of the latter. Likewise, it elevates reason to absurd levels while reducing and eventually privatizing religion – reducing it to a mere superstition or, at worse, a suspect way of being.

The shift away from metaphysical reality – is a shift away from morality and virtue and a movement toward chaos.  As well, it forfeits religious narrative in favor of each person being a narrative unto himself or herself – leaving space for ideology to govern personal choices and provide insufficient meaning housed in power and politics alone.

As Philosopher Charles Taylor notes the shift moved the human being from a state of enchantment to disenchantment thereby making belief less prominent and I would add making life less full, less spiritual, less intimate while curtailing everyday access to imagination and diminishing access to wisdom, faith and the experience of God.  In short, we lost human territory – yes, sacred space … and for many eventually faith itself.

If you wish to understand what you live today and know the very base of your misgivings and discontent being mindful of the shift from metaphysical reality to the modern era of man over God ought to inform you rather well.  Restoring what we once had in metaphysical reality is, of course, the obvious adjustment needed.

Finally, isn’t it rather revealing that few (if any) in public life mention any mega-narrative that refers to the history we have lived?

Hard to proceed wisely when wisdom is absent in the opinion-makers who command the public stage.  Is it too much to ask that those who take the stage might know something about history and have some command of lessons that it presents?  But alas, watching the public discourse now more often resembles the Three Stooges at work.  We must have better.

The above words refer to a concept that Moral Philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre has identified as the present method of reasoning employed in America and the West given the collapse of moral philosophy in our culture.

The point is a simple one and visible in all sorts of public advocacy.  Emotivism operates this way: there being no universal and applicable morality, one gets to do what they wish, what “feels” right for them.  Enter: the fiction of multiple genders, same-sex “marriage,” no need for borders, taking down statutes, flinging about the accusations that “white privilege” exists and must be checked, and ignoring the obvious in corruption like the prosecution of Hillary Clinton and those around her.

What MacIntyre identifies is a populace each member of whom can simply do as they please regardless of what once was thought to be guided by morality.

He has identified the problems created in America by radical individualism and undifferentiated egalitarianism so vigorously endorsed and sought by modern liberalism, the Left, “progressives,” socialists, Marxists and special pleaders of one sort or another.

More to the point, he has identified a major cause of the collapse of a nation and a civilization in the present time and reminded us of two things: (1) morality and a moral code are critical to the well-being and literal existence of a nation and a civilization, and (2) religion and religious narratives as essential to the creation of moral codes and the collective welfare and existence of a nation, a civilization and its people.

That said, why do you not hear emotivism discussed?  After all, MacIntyre introduced the concept in a book (After Virtue) written in 1981 and regarded as the best book in moral philosophy written in the last 100 years.  Tis, but another example of how poor is our public discourse for all the talking we seem to do.

Jesus speaks these words.  In an acute way they apply to us today.

I think in particular, however, about the foolishness of Catholic priests from prestigious Catholic universities, including the University of Notre Dame, who gathered several decades ago to proclaim that their universities would pursue autonomy from the governance and authority of the Church in favor of a more secular disposition.

If you look and wonder what happened to Christianity in the United States during your lifetime, or what happened to Catholicism during the same period, it conceded its power and place to secularism – as to universities they took an unwise turn to the Left … denied Christ, their faith, belief, the wisdom of Ages.  

Indeed, at Notre Dame and other places we now crown those public figures who favor abortion, work for its advancement.  We have turned from family to faithlessness and social nihilism in many ways.

That said, we might well be mindful of the words that Jesus speaks following the above:

” … what will a man give in exchange for his soul? … whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in glory to His Father with the holy angels.”

Mk 8: 37, 38

If it is not now obvious to us – that we have forsaken Christ – then we are truly blind.

There is nothing short of a repudiation of godlessness that is due – now.  And that Dear Friend is “on you.”

We live in very disturbing times.  It is not just that religious belief is on the decline, but more importantly people cannot access their interior, cannot imagine as they once could, cannot experience spiritual reality.

Many among us are captured by thought and assume the world can be understood and governed by intellect alone.  Do not the nonsense-thinking of so many college professors show the fault of such a disposition?

And then there is faux communication – the product of machine intercourse – a life of tweeting, of Facebook dribble.  We live in an age where thumbs matter more than quiet introspection.

In short the serious question is this: are we now in a place where the “sensitive crown of the human heart” can no longer tilt?

Are we so very much less than the human beings we once were?

It rather seems that way, does it not.  That is, frankly, frightening and bespeaks of our demise.

Lee.  Those on the Left who must be in constant conflict desire that a statute of General Lee be removed from display in Charlottesville, Virginia.  I wonder if anyone of the hostile party realizes Lee was offered command of the Northern Army, but felt a loyalty to his native home (Virginia), that he never owned slaves and that he allowed his estate to be a hospital for the wounded men of the Northern Army while leading the Southern troops in the Civil War. My guess is that the conflict-addicted Left cares not a whit about facts, and are strangers to honor even when it is in plain view.

Me thinks we are less than we once were.

Few see the inherent damage done by mass communication in a secularized culture.

What do I mean?  In a mass communication culture all sorts of fools speak. Each day rains down half-baked advocacy, unchallenged assertion, special pleadings designed to alter the status quo in favor of the advocate who long ago (armed with a college-educated bias favoring his or her “pet” political views) decided they are a genius and you are not – so you must do as they say.

We have mistakenly assumed that “education” is to be more trusted than experience, common sense, wisdom and purposeful tradition accumulated and honored over the centuries.

Alas we live in an age of arrogance, pride, ignorance and hyper-political nonsense.

People claim expertise they do not possess.  Bill Nye “the science guy” comes to mind. The global warming crowd labels skeptics “deniers” because (of course) they are “smarter” and know best.  Regrettably, there are only rare instances where someone calls out the self-acclaimed genius (who also fancies himself or herself “a savior”).

Never has a generation been so sure that they have license to topple venerable institutions and their moral foundation.  Rarely are rebukes plainly offered to this haughty crowd.  That said, I offer one delicious instance for your encouragement and enjoyment.

Supreme Court Antonin Scalia took exception to the majority opinion written by Justice Anthony Kennedy in Obergefell v. Hodges (the “gay marriage” case) with these words:

“If … I ever joined an opinion for the Court which began: ‘The Constitution promises liberty to all within its reach, a liberty that includes certain specific rights that allow persons … to define and express their identity.’ I would hide my head in a bag.” (Emphasis added.)

Don’t you just miss this kind of condor!  And doesn’t it show what we endure with those who think, as Justice Kennedy does, that they are so erudite and wise that they can sow such silliness into the public consciousness.

If there is any redeeming value in Justice Kennedy’s view it is this: it shows the waste that is a Stanford and Harvard education and provides clear caution when it comes to listening to elites and Leftists in the public square.

Best to be discerning and to build on the ageless wisdom of religious narrative while it is still accessible to you.

Yes, as has been said the educated elites could have saved themselves substantial pile of cash had they opted for a library card and a couple of bucks and change in late fees in place of their prestigious college.  Indeed, they could have saved us from their nonsense as well.

Such an interesting thought, clearly stated.  The stakes in a Christian life are not to be simply nice, or to conform to the rubric of the practices of religion – but rather to live as the children of God.  In that alone is redemption.

It is not enough to be nice, nor is it to live nicely behind closed doors while the world around you collapses.  A sequestered life is not sufficient for a Christian.

Look around you, we live in a culture that more and more resembles Sodom and Gomorrah.  New York City has a public hotel that encourages residents to engage in all sorts of sexual activity in plain view to their neighbors in surrounding apartments. Their mayor shelters nude women who solicit cash donations from tourists in Time Square. His justification?  The women are undocumented aliens and New York is a sanctuary city.

Chicago is a killing field.  The City of Angels (Los Angeles) is for the most part a shambles with widespread poverty and homelessness.  And we bar mention of God in public places.  How sick is this!

What is your responsibility?  What side of the divide are you on?
