Happy New Year

“It is written … “

Mt 4: 4, 7, 10

What might I offer you today to inaugurate the New Year?  What might I give you to nourish you as your journey begins?

The answer is this: the words of Jesus in responding to the desert temptations of Satan.

Why would I offer these words?  Of what value and use might they be?

It is simple.  In facing adversity, indeed – in facing Evil, Jesus relies on the words of God.  So in this simple phrase “It is written” I give you the foundation to life in this New Year.

When facing temptation, think of them.  When hurt, think of them. When sick, think of them. When lonely, when loss comes, or illness, or misfortune, or conflict, or fear, or confusion – think of them … and turn to the word of God.

God’s words are your port in a storm, the mooring you have each day, your compass, your map, your source of confidence, understanding, courage, calm, peace, compassion, joy, comfort, certainty, endurance, intimacy, contentment, tenderness, strength, companionship and so much more.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jn 1:1

Yes, “it is written …”  Remember and take comfort.  You have the words of life, eternal life.

Happy New Year.

Shalom.
