Intelligence, patriotism, Christianity, and a firm reliance on Him, who has never yet forsaken this favored land, are still competent to adjust, in the best way, all our present difficulty.

Abraham Lincoln

+ + +

These are Mr. Lincoln’s words from his First Inaugural Address on March 4, 1861. They more fitting today than they ever have been.

Since Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal we have had a steady flow of bigger and bigger government and less and less respect for the sovereign person and liberty.

This leftist trajectory has run its 83 year course.  In its time the citizen has become the target of government, and government has ceased to be its servant and protector.

As government has grown, faith has become unwelcome and God its adversary – each development has compounded our problems, divided us one from another, and fueled our decline.

This must stop.

The leaders we seek must, in contrast to the Left: be smart, courageous and practical, love this country and all its people, restore America’s role in the world, be demonstratively faithful and show in their decisions a knowledge of their faith as it has guided them in their lives, their work, and their service to others.

Yet, most of all the leaders we seek must possess the humility to have “a firm reliance on Him.”

Think about this: Mr. Lincoln lost more elections than he ever won, and he served but one term as a U.S. Congressman – one term.  He did pretty well as an outsider, didn’t he.

We are at the most critical national juncture in my lifetime.  This next presidential election matters very greatly to our nation, our children and grandchildren, and to freedom in the world.

The Left, in all its forms, has done damage enough.
