Holy Thursday, April 2, 2015

” … the rest said, “Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to save him.”  But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit.  And behold, the veil in the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom … tombs … opened, and the bodies of … saints who had fallen asleep raised … and … after his resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many. (Emphasis added.)

Mt 27: 49-50, 51 ,52, 53

God makes all things good, triumphs over all things – turns sadness to joy, suffering to glory.  This is truth, immutable truth, unbeatable truth.  But do we act as if it is so?

Do not fear.  Live in faith, for it is faith you have been given … and truth, eternal and divine truth – truth for all times and all challenges – Light for all darkness.

And we are given in Jesus the Christ, eternal life and access always to God.  For when the veil is torn from top to bottom that which separated believers from God’s dwelling place in the Temple is open to us.  In this, we were given free and perpetual access to God.  But do we act as if this is so?

With God ever present to us, do we “drive our own bus?”  Do we assume that we are the prime mover, the author of our own plan, our own life?  Do we quarrel as if we do not believe?  Do we worry and fear?  Attempt to design all events, the future and what cannot be known?

What, oh what, proof do we need to kneel?  To surrender to The Almighty?  To bend in reverence and humility and service, in gratitude and in trust?

“Jesus … gave up his spirit” – and we gained access to the Father.

This is Holy Thursday, and every day thereafter.

Shalom.
