… and the Lord turned and looked at Peter and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, “Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times.”

Lk 22:61

We say we are Christians, but are we?

Do we deny Jesus?  Deny his name?

We live in a strange land, full of Christians, that seems to deny Jesus routinely.  Do we act in his name?  Live in his ways?  Murder.  Abortion.  Adultery.  Families abandoned.  Children born our of wedlock.  Drug use.  Raunchy song lyrics.  The exploitation of sex in movies, on television and in advertising.  Silence when Christians are killed for their faith, and ancient Christian civilizations razed. Routine lying and malfeasance by public officials.  The misuse of public office and agencies. A leniency toward those who would destroy our allies, who profess to do so – who wish to do the same to us.  Lawlessness.  Disregard for the law.  Endless self-promotion.  Self-serving conduct.  Cheating in all forms imaginable.  The disappearance of virtue, and trust, honor and honesty.  Of moral strength.

It is Lent.  Do we not see Christ?  Does our land deny him?  In our silence do we? In our actions do we?

Where are the disciples?  We say we are Christians.

Repentance.  A land that needs it desperately.
